The existing JIC West One greenhouse structure at the John Innes Centre was in need of an extension & general refurbishment, including the structure itself and all of its internal services to ensure operational and environmental efficiency.

As an independent centre for research and training in plant and microbial science, the John Innes Centre’s extended greenhouse needed to meet the exacting demands of laboratory-grade plant research, providing an ideal environment for controlled experiments.

With extensive experience in constructing glasshouses fit for research purposes, Bridge Greenhouses were the ideal partner to deliver the project, installing an extended structure that met their requirements.

Use: Horticultural research and experimentation

Greenhouse Structure: Venlo greenhouse extension divided into 5 area’s & corridor. The structure was based on a 4m bay width and 4m section length to match the existing greenhouse. The glasshouse was built on a concrete slab c/w blockwork wall.

Modifications to existing glasshouse: The existing glasshouse had various partitions removed and some added to create the new layout. All doors were replaced with new and 4 no. container hatches were installed between the compartments and central corridor.

Horizontal screens: Horizontal pull wire roof screens were fitted to 3 zones of the glasshouse extension with Ludvig Svensson Harmony shade cloth. The roof screens within 4 zones and the corridor of the existing glasshouse were renovated using the same Harmony cloth.

Vertical screens: A combination of Vertical integrated roll gable screens & twin roll tube screens were installed within the new glasshouse extension and the existing glasshouse using Ludvig Svensson OBSCURA 10070 R FR W screen cloth.
