Here at Bridge Greenhouses, we have installed an advanced LED lighting and a custom tray field system in two phases for G’s Growers.

G’s Growers is a successful independent British food producer, utilising both fields and greenhouses to grow crops including salad leaves, celery, radish, onions, beetroot, mushrooms and more.

The Challenge

Due to the diverse nature of the crops grown by G’s, they needed an LED lighting system capable of changing “light recipes” for different crops and varying growth stages throughout the propagation cycle.

They also needed a reliable and cost-effective method of lifting plug trays off the ground across a vast area to improve temperature control.

Improvements to the lighting and growing conditions would create significant benefits in crop yield.

The Solution

Lighting

Dynamic spectrum lighting enables a precise mix of wavelengths of light to be applied to promote the maximum healthy growth from the crop.

We installed 732 of the latest Sollum SF-ONE Variable Spectrum fixtures throughout a large proportion of the structure, supported by the spectrum control software which enables them to be programmed and scheduled to deliver the ideal light conditions. The system offers the control needed to propagate various crops successfully throughout the entire year.

Tray fields

We installed 14.5km of Metazet FormFlex® VB gutters mounted on an adapted pipe rail support system, specifically designed to lift trays off the floor for superior temperature management. With this design we created a system that was robust and cost effective and able to be deployed over a large area.

Results

Thanks to our extensive experience in the latest greenhouse technology, the new lighting system helps maintain the best lighting conditions for optimum growth – all year round. Using the latest LED technology, the system also helps minimise energy use to lower costs.

The system of raised gutters now ensures that the temperature around the plants being grown is more controlled.

The results of the installation were so successful that G Growers then asked us to deliver a second phase installation in another large area of the structure.
